Gastroenteritis due to Salmonella enteritidis complicated with Septic Shock

Abstract
An infectious disease caused by salmonellae species other than Salmonella typhi is termed nontyphoidal salmonellosis. This infection can present as acute diarrhea, focal abscess, meningitis, osteomyelitis, or mycotic aneurysm or can be
asymptomatic.
Salmonellae can be differentiated into over 2000 serotypes by their somatic(0) antigens, which are composed of lipopolysaccharides and are part of the cell wall, and flagellar(H) antigens. Salmonella gastroenteritis caused by group D salmonellae
other
than S. typhi rarely complicated with septic shock. We report a case of enterocolitis due to Salmonella enteritidis complicated with shock in a 32-year-old previously healthy man, who was managed with intravenous fluid, vasoactive agents,
antibiotics(ceftriaxone), and made an uneventful recovery after 10 days of hospitalization.
